Energy Modeling and Analysis

Zodiac provides building energy modeling services for LEED EAp2, EAc1,EAc5, Retro-Commissioning and to fulfill the requirements of Section 179D of the tax code for tax deductions related to energy efficiency in commercial buildings. Buildings behave differently based on design and geographic location.

Energy modeling allows evaluation of alternative energy-saving solutions. We create a building model of the proposed building design. The alternative design solutions are simulated by changing building attributes including building orientation, envelope insulation levels, wall and roof construction, glazing properties, shading strategies, lighting system designs, mechanical system design, and other variables that influence the energy performance of the building. Modeled energy performance and life cycle cost analysis can then inform the optimal building design solution.

Simulation for LEED EA Credit 1 Optimize Energy Performance using Option 1 Whole Building Energy Simulation requires the development of a pair of energy models. One model represents the pre-construction design case, and the other model represents the pre-construction budget case, which is the design case model “crippled” to follow the Building Performance Rating Method defined in ANSI/ASHRAE/IESNA 90.1.

Savings for LEED EAc5 are determined through simulation of facility components and/or the whole facility. Savings are based on calibrated energy simulation and modeling; calibrated with hourly or monthly utility billing data and /or end use metering.
